About
MaituFoods is the vehicle of owner JoVonna Johnson, a chef, educator, gardener, and Executive Director of Awali Inc., a nonprofit veganic resource center dedicated to food sovereignty, culinary education, and environmental stewardship.
Since founding MaituFoods in 2008, she has developed innovative food programs that use plant-based cuisine as a tool for wellness, education, and community empowerment. Her work includes the creation of the Mother’s Meals Program for pregnant and postpartum families, a Vegan School Lunch Program that served thousands of meals to local students, private chef services, and community-based meal initiatives.
Today, JoVonna manages the garden and educational spaces at Awali Resource Center, where she created Kitchen Classroom, hosts the Tap Into The Source Podcast, and leads the Awali Vegan Culinary Academy. Through these programs, she helps individuals and families reconnect with food, land, culture, and the skills needed to cultivate healthier, more abundant lives.
